Dear Prayer Partners,

I've been wanting to share a few things with you since we left Benin for Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, and now have found some moments to do so.

First of all: JK, our eldest son Ryan's wife, had her tonsils out on Thursday, May 15. She did encounter some difficulties with extreme nausea due to the medications and anesthesia which resulted in a sleepless night and trip to the emergency room the night following her surgery. She is resting well now. The doctors said it will take her two weeks to get back up to speed. Please continue to pray for her.

The church planting conference has been very engaging and worthwhile. There is much discussion happening on ideas and Biblical principles with the major emphasis on how to bring God's Word to oral peoples, those whose natural learning style is storying. Although storying through the Bible to plant churches is not new to our experience, we are seeing ways to share the stories more effectively for creating churches and discipleship. At some point each West African IMB missionary will have the opportunity to attend. The missionary couple leading this training event is presently working in Chile. We will be engaged in this conference until May 28th.

May 24 we will be hosting another Cote d'Ivoirian Baptist Leader Think Tank. Forgiveness, healing, and future thinking is happening out of these events. The Baptist leaders have much work to do to bring their churches together in unity, for much has happened that has broken trust and unity. They are consecrated to Christ, to winning Cote d'Ivoire and for finding peace and resolution to past issues.

Sundays, June 1 and June 8, I will be speaking after the morning services to the women of the church of Treichville. June 1 the subject will be Forgiveness. June 8 the subjects will be on Spiritual Authority.

Note that I teach more easily in Fon than in French and here I will have to use French only! Please pray for God's language grace and wisdom to be on me!

Saturday, June 7, I hope to be gathering all the pastor's wives together from the Baptist Abidjan churches for fellowship and a devotional. Pastors' wives in any culture have a tough role to live and I've discovered that these women, here, have ceased getting together to encourage one another. Only pastors' wives can fully appreciate the difficulties of being a pastor's wife! This event is in the planning stage.

Sunday, June 1, Jeff will be flying to Togo from here in Cote d'Ivoire, to attend a special curriculum planning meeting and executive council meeting for our Baptist seminary in Togo. Men chosen from the conventions in Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo and Cote d'Ivoire to be on these committees will be in attendance along with the Baptist Convention presidents of each country. Jeff will return to Cote d'Ivoire Friday, June 6.

Monday, June 9, Matt Fleck from FBC, Kettering, Ohio, will be arriving with two other men to teach leadership training conferences for our Baptist partners. Some will take place in the rebel zone. Pray for these men as they prepare to come.

At the last moment things turned around for our Sahara bound youth! Although things have not worked out, at this time, for Kevin and Joshua to be able to go to Mali on the mission trip with the IMB ONE STORY teams, Kari and Victoria will be going! Praise God!

Continue to pray for Charles and Kaye Morrison in the death of their daughter, Lori; and for Bob and Becky Couts in the passing of his mom.

May the peace, power, love and conviction of Christ reign in your life!

Laboring where the laborers are few,

Barbara and Jeff
